Beauty tips : Epilation: bid that unwanted hair adieu!

Want to get rid of pesky unwanted hair? Learn the right steps to follow as well as techniques to use at home for smooth, hair-free skin.

Step 1: Exfoliate your skin

Exfoliating allows you to eliminate dead cells and stop ingrown hairs. This goes for both your body and your face. For your legs, opt for an exfoliator with bigger granules, but for more delicate areas, like your underarms and bikini line, go for a really mild scrub, such as one you would use on your face.

Step 2: Hop in the tub or shower

Warm water opens your skin's pores and softens body hair, making it easier and less painful to remove. However, you'll need to thoroughly dry your skin before removing any hair.

Step 3: Choose the right technique for you

Each and every hair removal technique has its pros, but where there are pros, there are cons. To make the right choice, just follow our guide!

  • Hot wax removes hair at the root, which makes for finer, less and slower-growing hair. Usually, waxing will keep you hair-free for about four to five weeks. Ideal for use on your legs, wax can be used everywhere. However, for facial hair, upper lip, eyebrows, underarms and bikini line, it's best to use a product that's designed for sensitive areas.

    We recommend:
    • Original Formula Depilatory Wax by Personnelle, a moisturizing, water-soluble formula that is microwaveable and ready in 60 seconds.
    • Sensitive Skin Formula Depilatory Wax by Personnelle, which offers the same effectiveness as the original formula but also soothes sensitive skin.
    • Nair Au naturel Orchid Bikini and Underarm Roll-On Wax,named the best depilatory product of 2013 by Coup de pouce magazine.
  • Depilatory cream is the preferred method for women with sensitive skin as it is completely painless. Though they do get rid of body hair, these creams don't remove hair at its root. That means that hair grows back faster and thicker, usually after five to six days.

    We recommend:
    • Hair Remover Lotion for Normal Skin by Personnelle, which acts in just three minutes.
    • Hair Remover Lotion for Sensitive Skin by Personnelle, with its 3-in-1 formula enriched with argan oil and St. John's wort extract that removes unwanted hair while exfoliating and moisturizing skin.
  • Shaving with a razor is the quickest way to get rid of leg and underarm hair, but it grows back much thicker and within just a few days, not to mention the cuts and irritation that it can cause.

Step 4: Aftercare

If your skin is prone to bumps or redness after removing body hair, apply a cold compress to affected areas and lavish your skin with a hydrating product to reduce irritations.
