Beauty tips : Exfoliation: a key step in your beauty ritual

Exfoliation is a step that should never be left out of your beauty routine. Let us teach you about this essential skin care process.

What is exfoliation?

In time, cells from our outermost layer of skin accumulate on the surface, which dries out our skin and dulls its appearance. By exfoliating, we get rid of dead skin cells and promote the natural cellular regeneration of our skin.

Why exfoliate your skin?

A good scrub leaves skin softer and smoother. Exfoliating also increases the effectiveness of your moisturizer, as it can penetrate your skin more deeply.

If you are prone to getting blackheads, exfoliating is especially good for you, since it helps to get rid of and prevent them.

Types of exfoliant

When we talk about exfoliants, we are usually referring to chemical exfoliants and mechanical exfoliants.

Mechanical exfoliants work with friction: by rubbing the skin, they remove dead skin cells. To do so, use a glove, brush, or creams or gels that contain small granules (micro-beads, sea salt, crushed fruit seeds, etc.).

Chemical exfoliants dissolve the substance that "sticks" dead cells to the skin. These products are applied to skin then left on for a few minutes to work. The main ingredients used are salicylic acid, retinol and fruit enzymes.

Exfoliating your face

The right time

After cleaning and before applying moisturizer and eye cream.

The right moves

Make small circular movements. Your scrub's effectiveness isn't based on how hard you scrub. Scrubbing too hard may make your skin irritated, red or dry.

How often

Two to three times a week.

Suggestions: Physiological Ultra-Fine Scrub by La Roche-Posay is a gentle exfoliant that respects the skin's physiological balance. It is ideal for sensitive skin.

Exfoliating your body

The right time

In the shower: the heat will open your pores and the scrub will be even more effective. Don't forget to apply moisturizing body lotion once you are out of the shower.

The right moves

Use a loofa, massage glove or exfoliating product. Make circular motions on your arms, back, thighs, legs and feet, focusing on rough areas like your knees, elbows and heels. Be gentle on more sensitive areas, such as your stomach, bust and neckline. In these areas, opt for a soft massage with your fingertips.

How often

At least once a week.

We like: The Renaissance Body Glove. Made from vegetal cellulose, it effectively eliminates dead skin cells and is gentle enough for daily use..
