Essentials every woman should always have on hand

A run in your stocking, smudged lipstick or a broken nail can happen any time of the day. Luckily, they can be easily be fixed when you have all you need at hand. Here's a list of makeup kit essentials and other must-have tools to keep in your purse or at work for quick touch-ups.

Blotting papers and StudioMakeup pressed powder

Pressed powder keeps your complexion matte for hours. Touch-up the T zone when it starts to get shiny. And, if needed, remove excess oil with a matte blotting paper – it helps to tighten the skin's pores, giving you a matte complexion in no time.

We like: Lise Watier and Personnelle blotting papers.

Lipstick, lip liner and makeup remover wipes

As you eat, drink, talk and laugh, your lipstick wears off, requiring a touch-up. Apply lip liner to the contour of your lips, then the entire surface area, before applying lipstick. You'll be even happier with the result if you first take off what's left of your lipstick with a makeup remover wipe.

A nail file

Always carry a small nail file in your purse or makeup kit. On top of being unsightly, a broken nail can cause a snag in your sweater or stockings.

A travel sewing kit

Button popped off your blouse or the seam of your skirt got ripped? With a travel sewing kit, you can fix these problems in no time. Some sewing kits are so compact they can fit in a clutch or even a wallet compartment. Why go without one?

Dental floss

Always carry a small supply of dental floss to make sure your smile stays radiant morning, noon and night.

Bobby pins

A hectic day can take its toll on the best of hairdos, especially when you're wearing a hat in winter. By keeping a few bobby pins on hand, you can restore your original style or tame an unruly strand.

Cicaplast Baume B5 from La Roche-Posay

This repairing balm soothes dry, chapped, irritated skin and redness. The small tube can easily be slipped into a makeup bag. It can even be used on the sensitive skin of children and infants. A must-have!

Clear nail polish

Got a run in your pantyhose? Don't panic! Dab a little bit of clear nail polish over the run to keep it from ripping further.

Avène Thermal Water spray

Spray a little Thermal Water on your face or neck to cool off on a hot day or to soothe dehydrated skin caused by dry office air. Another tip: after applying foundation or pressed powder, spritz a fine mist of Thermal Water over your face to get rid of the powdery look.
